Blue Gecko acquires ORA-600 Consulting

Seattle, WA (March 19, 2009)—Seattle-based remote DBA services company Blue Gecko, Inc. (http://www.bluegecko.net), as part of its strategy to enhance emergency support and education offerings, announced that it has acquired Seattle-based ORA-600 Consulting, a premier provider of Oracle administration, recovery and education services.

ORA-600 Consulting was founded by noted Oracle expert Jeremiah Wilton, Amazon.com’s first database administrator.  Blue Gecko co-founders JJ Ecker, Chuck Edwards and Sarah Novotny were also early Amazon.com technical contributors, and with Wilton, were instrumental in architecting and scaling the largest E-Commerce infrastructure through periods of dramatic growth and change.

“I’m very excited to be working with Jeremiah again,” said Edwards, President of Blue Gecko.  “Jeremiah has built a recognized practice in advanced Oracle tuning, recovery, and education, and we are exited to strengthen those areas of our practice.

Asked about his immediate priorities at Blue Gecko, Wilton said, “My first initiatives will be to build advanced education and emergency support offerings. Blue Gecko has built a well-regarded 7×24 remote database administration offering, with an emphasis on predictive monitoring and high-touch customer service.  I want to help organizations find new ways to maximize benefit from their investments in Oracle technology, even if they aren’t current Blue Gecko customers.”

Blue Gecko announced that the acquisition enables them to offer emergency support any time of the day or night to any Oracle customer, anywhere in the world.  “I have been helping Oracle customers of all kinds with crashed and unusable systems for years,” said Wilton.  “Unstable hardware, older versions of Oracle, and edge-case performance problems may take days to work through with Oracle Support, especially for smaller companies.  Our emergency support offering is designed to get people back on their feet quickly.”

Blue Gecko assured customers that by engaging them for emergency support, customers have no obligation to use any of Blue Gecko’s range of services, and can terminate the emergency support engagement the instant they feel stabilized.

“I am particularly excited about offering advanced education,” said Edwards.  “We have always provided mentoring and technical guidance to our customers when requested and appropriate.  Jeremiah will lead our effort to build an advanced training practice that will allow Oracle users to draw on the extensive experience of Blue Gecko’s technical leaders.”
