MySQL Enterprise on AWS

The most popular database platform for EC2, MySQL Community and MySQL Enterprise are the backbone of thousands of scalable websites and enterprise applications in the Amazon Cloud.

MySQL Enterprise is fully-supported my MySQL on EC2 with a specific version called MySQL Enterprise for Amazon EC2.  Interestingly, MySQL Enterprise for Amazon EC2 does not include any specific binaries or support fees; MySQL will simply provide enterprise support for MySQL Enterprise when it is deployed on EC2.

MySQL has not introduced any incremental licensing fees for MySQL Enterprise on AWS; that is, EC2 instance fees are separate and do not include licensing for MySQL as they can for SQL Server and other software applications.  This does not mean that MySQL will not introcuce bundled licensing in the future – Amazon is negotiating aggresively with all database vendors – but for now, MySQL Enterprise licenses must be purchased separately.
